Healing Through Action

Healing Through Action

by Brian Bagnall

Healing through action is a process in which we aid others in our lives. We can help someone by listening, offering guidance, or even financial assistance. There are many ways to lend a hand. When we help others, sometimes many of us think, “If I’m ever in this situation, I hope someone would help me”. We provide assistance toward others, not only to help, but to give back and eventually the momentum carried by the action will find its way full circle. What many don’t realize is that generosity towards others and lending aid not only helps them, but ourselves in the process.

“Healing through action” is a powerful tool we can use each day to lift our spirits and change our lives. At some point, many of us may struggle with life, where we can’t seem to get a break, where it may just take one smile or a helping hand from another to break free of the gloom. Instead of passing judgment and wondering if the person is deserving of the situation they find themselves, we can instead accept their situation it is and help. Helping others and reaching out can bring us happiness that we never before imagined.

We’ve all had bad days where we beat ourselves up. A person might say to themselves, “I’m not good enough”, “I’m not smart enough”, or “I wish I was more like so-and-so”. When we reach out to other people, we find ourselves. We feel good about the action of helping; knowing full well, we have just made a positive impact on another human being. Not only do we feel good about the action of helping someone out, but we learn about another person and see how our troubles can be minute compared to those of others.

When we are down in our lives and everything seems to be going terribly wrong, we have a choice to make. We can either be defeated by life’s obstacles, or we can learn and grow from our mistakes and help guide other people, to not meet the same fate. In short, we become experts based on our life experiences. Then, in turn, when we help others, we are given an opportunity to share in their experience and fate. We become a part of the butterfly effect.

The butterfly effect is about action. When an action is performed a reaction occurs. SIf a person reaches out to help someone, that person in turn will remember the generosity and later will provide help to someone else. Being a part of this process is extremely gratifying. Our one action becomes a part of who we are and can carry tremendous power to people we don’t even know or come into contact with, creating a chain reaction.

“Healing through action” builds confidence by boosting our self-image. It helps someone in need. The action can carry over to others in a chain known as the butterfly effect, and helps us realize our own good fortune. We also receive connections with people and a sense of community. The power of gratitude and helping others is endless and we never truly know or understand all the benefits that may emerge from our actions, but we must first put forth the action to reap the benefits of healing; leading to increased happiness.
